ADEQ Cottonwood Community Update

Get Your Questions Ready!
If you’ve been following this issue, you remember that there is a slag pile (leftover mining debris) in Cottonwood adjacent to the children’s park and fairgrounds. A firm, MRI, is reprocessing that slag (blasting and crushing it) to produce “abrasive blast media” for use in many applications such as roofing, road surfacing and now, turf products.
During the reprocessing of the slag pile, fugitive dust escapes the work site and settles throughout the nearby community. The question at hand is whether the product is toxic or safe.
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has been testing, and will share their results at this meeting (you can attend in person or online.) Visit the ADEQ meeting page to review their preliminary findings before the event.
